rispost Pork Dinuguan

May 5th, 2006

So, how can you make dinuguan look attractive? This was my lunch and since I was quite certain no one else in our household was going to partake of it, I gave most of the dish away to some of my Pinay friends.

Hubby is not particularly picky with food but he draws the line when it comes to this dish, kilawing kambing, and balut. The first two he had tasted under quite amusing circumstances. My lola (several times removed) invited him over to her house and in the relative darkness of her kitchen, she offered him dinuguan. Thinking it was some chocolatey concoction, he took a bite and once his taste buds told him it definitely wasn’t anything even remotely cocoa-ic, he had to force himself to swallow it and gracefully decline any more. The second was when my dad made some for lunch and, trying to earn some pogi points, had a small helping. As for the balut, I don’t blame him for refusing to even look at it. My cousin bought a couple and proceeded to show him step-by-step how to eat it. By the time she cracked open the eggshell, MH was turning green around the gills.
